Jansz Tasmania LD Vintage Cuvée 2004
Attention to detail and diligence in the vineyard, with crop thinning and disease monitoring, were essential to great winemaking in vintage 2004. Every block from the Jansz vineyard was hand-harvested separately and kept in individual batches through the year. Gentle handling, select barrel fermentation and complex assemblage blending resulted in a wonderful 2004 Jansz Vintage Cuvee. In years where wine quality reaches the highest standards a few select dozen are held back to age for an extra four years in bottle to create the wine called Late Disgorged Cuvee. 2004 was such a wine. The extra years of ageing on lees in bottle give the depth and complexity to the final wine that rival the greatest. The colour is vibrant, deep straw, with very fine bead. An intense nose of complexity and layers, with aromas of lemon curd and white nectarine. Notes of oyster shells and toasted brioche give great savouriness to the wine. The palate reveals a wine of depth and power balanced by a fine line of natural acidity. Flavours of sea spray, truffled honey and spice abound, supporting the gorgeous fruit of ripe lemon curd, poached pears and toasted almond. This wine really belies its age. Superb.
